John Denny

Painting

John graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1956 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. He studied black and white and color delineation with Hedy (Shultz) Newman as his instructor. His work as an architect, included employment with several architectural and engineering firms, including his own. He also worked for the University of Nebraska at Omaha and with Penn State University, retiring from Penn State in 1999. Johns work in architecture as a principal in charge of design began in 1966, with the formation of the Loftus and Denny Company. John was born in O’Neil Nebraska and as a young boy lived in Otoe, Dorchester and Lincoln-all in Nebraska. In his private practice, John returned to the area of his upbringing to design and oversee the creation of churches in eastern Nebraska. Some of the communities he worked with include Dewesse, Beaver Crossing, Bellwood, Leigh, Sargent, and Butte He joined the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania in 2011.

Experience in Art includes building presentations and more recently, small sketches in watercolor with pen and ink, created for friends and relatives.

Presentations of architectural designs were prepared for private practice and for other architects and developers. Usually these were watercolor with pen and ink. Building presentations required patience and discipline in contrast to John’s free style today where an idea is to dominate the drawing.

Currently John is in retirement. His architectural status is Architect emeritus, after maintaining an active license for 56 years. He continues to paint, draw and write.
