Kori Abdouch

Painting

Kori Abdouch was born and raised in Omaha, NE. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a BFA in Studio Art in 1983, and a BS in Education in 1990. An award-winning educator and artist, she taught Art in OPS for 28 years. In 2011, inspired by the art and life of Andrew Peters, a nationally recognized artist that visited her school, Abdouch began immersing herself in the understanding and exploration of painting landscapes en Plein Air (outdoors). She went on to study Plein air and studio painting with Peters, and Plein air painting with Debra Joy Groesser. She has continued to further her education by studying the works and processes of the contemporary and historical landscape artists she admires. Since her retirement from teaching in 2019, Abdouch enjoys sharing her artistic journey with like-minded souls. She participates in regional and national exhibitions, and has received recognition for her work. She is an associate member of the American Impressionist Society, and a member of Omaha Plein Air.

Plein air painting is my passion, and it’s not for the faint of heart! Navigating ones gear through a variety of terrain exposed to the elements and creatures is a challenge. Capturing the ever-changing effects of light in a given setting is the unique ingredient that allows my artistic spirit and vision to come to life. I am primarily a landscape painter working in oils and gouache. I prefer painting from life to capture the spirit and beauty of the scene or subject before me. I use a variety of techniques and tools. My smaller paintings are often completed on site, Alla Prima. My Plein air paintings, sketches, and site photos help inform my larger studio works.
