Wayne Kalal

Wayne Kalal was born in San Diego, California while his father was in the U.S.

Navy. Soon after his discharge we returned to Omaha. He Graduated from

Papillion PHS in 1967. On November 4th, 1968 he enlisted in the US Coast

Guard, after boot camp he attended Aviation Electricians Mate school in

Jacksonville, Florida for 6 months, after graduating from Aviation Electrician

Mate school he was sent to Air Station Kodiak, Alaska for two years. Upon

arrival in Kodak he underwent Air Crew training as a search and rescue Air

Crew for Helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. He was transferred to Elizabeth

City, North Carolina for two more years, discharged in May of 1973. He

returned home and worked as a construction electrician till retiring in February

of 2011.

Since retiring he has pursued teaching himself to paint and attending

workshops. Painting in oils primarily, painting in soft pastels and charcoal. He

has enjoyed painting landscapes, still lifes, and he is working at portraits. He

enjoys plein air but is more comfortable as a studio artist. His influences

include Marla Bagetta, Debra Joy Grosser, Cesar Santos, Scott Christensen,

and Andrew Tischler.
